Kushtia doctor jailed for 15 years in drug case

Equipment for consumption of yaba as well as 2500 yaba pills were retrieved from the accused in the year 2015.

A Kushtia court has sent a doctor to 15 years of prison time in a drug-related case.

The accused, Asaduzzaman Firoz, a medical officer in residence at Kushtia Government TB Hospital, was also fined Tk50,000, and sentenced to one year in jail for failure to pay.

He was at the courtroom at the time Kushtia Additional District Judge and Sessions Judge Tajul Islam announced the verdict in the media, as per reports.

The doctor was later transferred to the district prison.

According to the case files the police were able to detain Asaduzzaman as well as Joynal Abedin Joy and Naharul Islam as they were under the influence yaba at the time of an anti-drug search at the Nazarul Malithar mill of Mirpur upazila on the 13th of September in 2015.

The yaba consumption equipment as well as 22,000 yaba pills were found after detainees' residences were searched.

The court released Joynal and Naharul because the charges against them were not established.

The case was brought in accordance with the Narcotics Act with Mirpur police station in the year 2015.
